A Touch of Armenia in the Heart of Burbank

On October 24, 2026, the grounds of St. Leon Armenian Cathedral in Burbank came alive with Armenian music, dance, traditional food, and a spirit of generosity as the school's annual Little Angels Festival brought together students, families, and community members in celebration of Armenian heritage and service to the homeland.

Students arrived with excitement and were warmly welcomed by their teachers. During the morning prayer, His Eminence Archbishop Hovnan Derderian, Primate of the Western Diocese, offered his paternal blessing. Reflecting on a student's recent question, “What is life?”, the Archbishop shared his thoughts on the Christian understanding of life as a precious gift from God and the importance of cherishing it.

School Principal Deacon Hovhannes Gumruyan then highlighted the school's previous charitable initiatives in support of compatriots in Armenia, followed by a short video documenting these efforts.

Following the blessing of the festival tables by Archbishop Derderian and the communal recitation of the Lord's Prayer, the festivities officially began. Students of the Armenian Dance Academy and Nrane Vocal and Dance Studio delighted attendees with lively musical and dance performances. Adding to the festive atmosphere, the beloved Kara Bala, reawakening memories of Yerevan's beloved streets, charmed young guests by distributing flowers from her basket.

Beyond its celebration of Armenian culture and community, the festival carried a meaningful charitable mission. All proceeds will benefit vulnerable families in Armenia, with particular support directed toward children living in border communities.

Through the generosity and compassion of the school's students, affectionately known as the “Little Angels,” the festival once again demonstrated that love for the homeland transcends geographical boundaries. Their kindness will soon reach their peers in Armenia, offering encouragement, care, and hope.

The Little Angels Festival was a heartwarming reminder that even small acts of generosity can build lasting bridges between Burbank and Armenia, bringing the Diaspora and homeland closer through faith, compassion, and service.
