The Diocese

The first steps toward the establishment of the Western Diocese were taken a full decade before its official founding in 1927. On January 28, 1917, the first Assembly of Delegates was convened in Fresno. The minutes of that historic gathering—serving as the Diocese's birth records—were meticulously entered into special ledgers, which have been carefully preserved at the Diocesan Headquarters under the stewardship of the Diocesan Primate Archbishop Hovnan Derderian.
