Third Sunday After Transfiguration

“Ah, you who join house to house, who add field to field, until there is room for no one but you, and you are left to live alone in the midst of the land!” (Isaiah 5:8)

These prophetic words condemn not work or possessions themselves, but the heart that forgets God and its neighbor, making life revolve only around personal gain and the pursuit of wealth.

God blesses us with work, blessings, and gifts. Yet these are given not only for our own benefit, but also so that we may become a blessing in the lives of others. When possessions become the purpose of our lives, we begin to lose what is most precious—our hearts. What was meant to serve us begins to rule over us.

Today, the world constantly tells us: have more, gather more, become more powerful. The Gospel, however, shows us a completely different way. Jesus Christ teaches us that a person's life is not measured by the abundance of possessions, but by the love, mercy, and faith they carry in their heart.

The question of the prophet Isaiah, “Will you alone live in the land?” challenges us to reflect on our attitude toward others. Do we see those around us who are in need? Is there room in our success for the joy of someone else? Is there room in our hearts for God and for our neighbor, or have our plans and desires occupied every corner of our lives?

A Christian is called not to accumulate, but to share; not merely to enlarge a house, but to help build the Kingdom of God. Our true wealth is not what we keep for ourselves, but what we lovingly give to others. For mercy never makes a person poor—it enriches the soul.

Let us examine our hearts. May the priorities of our lives be not temporary possessions, but eternal values. May our hands always be open to help, our hearts ready to love, and our souls devoted to serving God. Then our lives will become a living witness, not of selfishness and accumulation, but of love, righteousness, and mercy.
