FEAST OF THE DISCOVERY OF THE RELIQUARY OF THE HOLY MOTHER OF GOD

“Here am I, the servant of the Lord; let it be with me according your word.”

(Luke 1:38)

These words of obedience, spoken by Saint Mary, Mother of God, are among the most beautiful and humble responses to God’s call in all of human history. In this single sentence are contained faith, trust, obedience, and complete surrender to the will of God.

When the angel Gabriel announced to Mary that she would become the Mother of the Savior, she did not fully understand what awaited her. A path was opening before her, yet she could not see where it would lead. Nevertheless, Mary did not choose the path of doubt, but the path of trust. She placed her life into God’s hands and said, “Let it be with me according to your word.”

Today we live in a world where people are accustomed to controlling everything, knowing everything in advance, and having answers to every question. Yet along life’s journey we often encounter situations we do not understand, difficulties whose purpose we cannot see, and trials before which we feel powerless. In such moments, the Holy Mother of God becomes for us a living example of faith.

The greatness of Mary does not lie only in the fact that she became the Mother of the Son of God. Her greatness is found first and foremost in her obedience. She teaches us that sometimes trusting God is more important than understanding everything. Faith begins where a person is willing to say, “Lord, I do not understand everything, but I trust You.”

The life of the Holy Mother of God shows us that God accomplishes great things in hearts that are humble and open to His will. When we make room for God in our hearts, He is able to work in our lives as well, transforming us and making us co-workers of His grace.

The example of the Blessed Virgin Mary should teach us to obey the will of God, to trust Him even in times of uncertainty, and to live with the kind of faith that can say: “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be with me according to Your word.”
