On May 31, 2026, the Palmdale Armenian Saturday School held its year-end program dedicated to mothers. The event brought together students, parents, grandparents, and community members in a warm atmosphere celebrating family, faith, and Armenian heritage.
Principal Oksanna Sargsyan welcomed the attendees and expressed gratitude to the parents, teachers, and supporters whose dedication has helped the newly established school flourish since its opening in January. Although the Palmdale Armenian community does not yet have its own church, the school operates with the sponsorship and support of the Western Diocese of the Armenian Church of North America under the leadership of His Eminence Archbishop Hovnan Derderian. Among the guests were Deacon Hovhannes Gumruyan, Spiritual Supervisor of the Western Diocese’s Saturday Schools, and Dr. Ellie Andreasian, Chair of the Saturday Schools Educational Committee.

The students delighted the audience with songs, poems, recitations, and heartfelt tributes to their mothers. A particularly moving moment came when the children presented roses to their mothers while reciting poems of gratitude and love. The program also featured a lively performance of Hovhannes Tumanyan’s The Tailless Fox, as well as musical selections including “Dilijan” performed on the dhol and sacred melodies presented on the clarinet.

Conveying the blessings of Archbishop Derderian, Deacon Gumruyan praised the efforts of the school administration, teachers, parents, and students, encouraging the community to continue supporting the school’s growth and mission. Dr. Andreasian emphasized the importance of Armenian-language education and the preservation of Armenian identity in the Diaspora. The memorable event concluded with the Lord’s Prayer, led by Deacon Gumruyan, as attendees offered prayers for the Armenian people, their families, and the continued success of the school.
