Reenacting a Moment from a Century Ago

As we approach a milestone moment in our shared history, the Western Diocese invites all who cherish our Armenian faith and cultural heritage to participate in a carefully planned commemorative event: the 100th anniversary photo reenactment. This project honors the memory of July 4, 1927, when the congregation of the first Armenian Church in Los Angeles joined in celebration of The United States Independence Day. The original photograph has long stood as a symbol of pride, resilience, and gratitude for the country that welcomed and embraced our community, and it remains a powerful testament to our enduring ties to this land and to each other.

This year, on July 4, 2026, our 100th anniversary picture day will take place at St. Leon Cathedral. We invite you to be part of this momentous celebration that will carry the message: we are a people sustained by faith and growing in faith. The day will be an occasion to reflect on our history, celebrate our present, and look toward a future in which we continue to contribute positively to the broader community.

This event is open to all members of the Western Diocese and invited guests who share in our heritage and faith. We encourage families to participate together, including youth, seniors, and intergenerational groups.
