One of the goals of the Christian Education Council(CEC) is to create opportunities for Sunday School Staff members meet and share about their experiences on how they prepare their lessons and how they interact with their students. After a hiatus or about 5 years the regional Sessions were reinstituted this past March and in April. Host parishes were: St. Vartan, Oakland; St. Gregory, Pasadena; and St. Gregory, Fowler. Many thanks to Fr. Krikor Zakaryan, Fr. Sarkis Petoyan and Fr. Gomidas Zohrabian and superintendents, Karen Mener, Jill Panossian and Rachel Koligian for their hospitality. We were very happy to have Rev. Fr. Mashdots Keshishian, the CEC Spiritual Advisor, participate during the Central Region Workshop.
At the workshops the participants went over the 'Cone of Learning' emphasizing that we need to have active learning occurring in our classrooms. The Faith Levels of children were also read and discussed so that we are very aware of where our students are in their faith journey. The ‘Tips for Teachers’ article from the Eastern Diocese highlighted methods to teach effectively and how to engage students during the Sunday School lessons.
The participants worked with the materials sent by the CEC for the Sunday coming up to collaboratively develop a comprehensive lesson for their students. They also previewed one of the newer YouTube available resources for teaching about the Holy Badarak and discussed other resources that can be used for that topic.
The CEC invites all Sunday School staff members to be at the 'Back to School’ hybrid workshop on Saturday, August 22nd from 10 to 12 Noon. More information will follow soon. Please put it on your calendar.
