On Saturday, April 25, 2026, the students of the “Petag” Saturday School solemnly commemorated the 111th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, contributing their participation to this important day of remembrance and reflection.
The program began with a prayer and the Armenian national anthem, establishing a solemn and respectful atmosphere. The school principal, Mr. Norayr Daduryan, then delivered his opening remarks, welcoming those in attendance. He highlighted the significance of the day, recalling this tragic chapter of our history, while emphasizing the importance of preserving Armenian identity, advancing Armenian culture, and keeping the Armenian language alive—as foundational pillars of national survival and the strongest defense against cultural genocide and annihilation.
Following his remarks, the principal invited the guest of the day to present the docudrama film titled “The Red Scarf.” The film tells the deeply moving and impactful story of Grigor, a young survivor of the Genocide, addressing themes of loss, memory, and survival.
Arpi Grigorian, who played a significant role in the film’s conception and production, took the stage to share her personal reflections and creative journey. She spoke about the stages of the film’s development, the birth of the idea, and the challenges that were overcome in bringing this important project to life.
The screening of “The Red Scarf” followed, deeply moving the audience. Although the film carried a sorrowful narrative, it also inspired a sense of pride and resilience, bearing witness to the unyielding spirit of the Armenian people.
In the next part of the program, the students proceeded to the church grounds, gathering around the khachkar, where they paid their respects. They laid flowers and bowed in remembrance of the martyrs, renewing their commitment to national memory and values. The kindergarten students held images of forget-me-not flowers, while the older students carried flags and proudly sang, “An open sky, one land, a museum beneath the heavens—Armenia.”
The day concluded with the Lord’s Prayer and the Armenian national anthem, once again emphasizing unity, remembrance, and continuity.
This event was not only a commemorative ceremony, but also an important educational and spiritual experience for the students, whose participation reaffirmed that the new generation continues to preserve and pass on our national values.
