DO YOU HAVE A PLACE AT CHRIST’S TABLE? BY DIRAN AVAGYAN

I once walked into a suit store in Tokyo, Japan, inside an upscale shopping mall. For a man, it felt like paradise. Rows of beautifully tailored jackets surrounded me. Wool, silk, linen, even cashmere. The temptation was real, and I was determined to purchase something nice to remember the trip.

I asked the clerk to take my measurements. With a kind smile and the unmistakable politeness of Japanese hospitality, he said, “Sir, we don’t have anything in your size.”

I know I am a big guy, but I had never had an issue finding clothes in my size. We laughed together, shared the awkwardness with good humor, and eventually settled on something safe. One-size-fits-all ties and bow ties.

The moment stayed with me.

How often do we find ourselves in places where what we need, or even who we are, does not seem to fit? Perhaps it is something as simple as being invited to a restaurant where there is nothing you can eat. Sometimes this happens because of a lack of sensitivity or consideration, and sometimes because the world simply was not designed with you in mind.

And slowly, the question deepens. If I do not fit here, do I fit anywhere? Would I have a place at Christ’s table? Would I be excluded because of my size, my preferences, my limitations, or my differences?

The Gospel gives a clear answer: “Go out to the roads and lanes and bring people in, so that my house may be filled.” (Luke 14:23)

For Jesus, no one is the wrong size. No one is unfit. No one is asked to fix themselves before being welcomed. His table is not limited to those who fit, but open to all who draw near. Every human life is precious, and every person has a place.

What the world sometimes cannot accommodate, Christ receives fully. Where we are told there is no room, He prepares a seat.
