St. Garabed Armenian Apostolic Church of the Desert Celebrates 14th Anniversary of Consecration

St. Garabed Armenian Apostolic Church of Rancho Mirage, affectionately described by His Eminence Archbishop Hovnan Derderian as the “jewel in the California desert,” celebrated the 14th anniversary of its consecration on Sunday, January 11, 2026. The Divine Liturgy was celebrated by His Eminence Archbishop Hovnan Derderian, Primate of the Western Diocese of the Armenian Church of North America, who himself consecrated the church on January 7, 2012. Joining the faithful on this joyous and prayerful occasion were Diocesan Council Chairman Mr. Derik Ghookasian and his spouse, Mrs. Adrineh Ghookasian, whose presence further honored the parish’s milestone celebration.

Assisting at the Holy Altar was Deacon Gevork Gevorkian, Pastor in Charge of St. Garabed Church. At Deacon Gevorkian’s request, His Eminence granted the minor order of acolyte to altar servers Alex Ordian, Vahe Aslanian, and Arthur Jibilyan. In his pastoral message, Archbishop Derderian congratulated the newly ordained acolytes, exhorting them to continue serving Christ our Lord with renewed dedication and to uphold the sacred traditions of the Armenian Church with enduring steadfastness and reverence.

Following the service, a warm reception was held in Kirkjan Hall, where His Eminence commended Deacon Gevorkian for his zealous Christian spirit and leadership in guiding Christ’s flock along the path of righteousness as well as the devoted members of the Parish Council led by Mr. Garbis Hindoyan, for their commitment to becoming Ambassadors of Christ in their community.

The Primate also blessed decorated police officer Daniel Yacoubian and thanked officer Yacoubian for his valuable service to the community. Archbishop Derderian expressed words of appreciation the parish community for the unwavering love for their beloved church and for their steadfast commitment to preserving and nurturing Armenian Christian identity in the desert.

The anniversary celebration stood as a living testimony to faith, unity, and the enduring presence of St. Garabed Armenian Apostolic Church in Rancho Mirage.
