On January 5, 2026, on the occasion of the Feast of the Nativity and Theophany of Our Lord Jesus Christ, His Eminence Archbishop Hovnan Derderian visited Adventist Health Glendale, bringing the light and blessing of the Church to patients, families, and healthcare professionals. The visit underscored the Church’s pastoral mission of presence, prayer, and compassion, especially in places where human vulnerability is most deeply felt.
Accompanied by Diocesan clergy Rev. Fr. Vazken Movsesian, Rev. Fr. Yeremia Khachatryan, and Chaplain Diran Avagyan, Archbishop Derderian presided over the traditional Blessing of the Water Service, commemorating Christ’s Baptism in the River Jordan. The service, rich in symbolism, proclaimed the sanctification of creation and the renewing grace of God, invoking blessings upon all those receiving care and those dedicated to the ministry of healing within the hospital.

In his remarks, Archbishop Derderian reflected on the profound appropriateness of celebrating this sacred service in a hospital setting. “This service is most fitting,” he stated, “because this is a place where human weakness is not hidden. It is a place where pain is real, where families wait and hope, where life is protected, and where compassion is tested every day.” He emphasized that in such a setting, the Church’s prayer transcends ritual, becoming a living testimony of God’s abiding presence and healing grace.

The Primate also expressed his sincere gratitude to Adventist Health Glendale President Alice Issai, Vice-President Dr. Ramella Markarian, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Sari Nabulsi, as well as the hospital’s executives, physicians, nurses, chaplains, and all members of the staff who serve with care, dignity, patience, and sacrifice. Concluding his remarks, His Eminence offered a prayerful message for the new year, stating, “As we celebrate the birth and revelation of Christ, may His light shine in our lives. May He grant us a new year marked not only by plans and accomplishments, but by faith, humility, and love.”
