“Keep awake therefore, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming.” (Matthew 24:42)
The Sixth Sunday of Great Lent — the Sunday of the Advent — reminds us of a great and important truth: our life is not only about today, but also about the day when the Lord will come again. The coming of Christ is not only an event of the future; it is also a call for us to live in such a way that our hearts are always ready for His presence.
The Lord tells us, “Be watchful.” These words first of all refer to our spiritual life. To be watchful means to be attentive in our thoughts, words, and actions. When a person lives with love, forgiveness, and kindness, he already lives in the light of the Lord. Such a life makes a person ready to meet the Lord.
The Sunday of the Coming also reminds us that time is a great gift. Every day is an opportunity to become a better person, to love more, and to do more good. When we help someone, when we comfort a sorrowful person, when we ask for forgiveness or forgive others, we make our life a living testimony of Christ’s love.
Often people think that being ready means doing great things. However, the Lord teaches us that faithfulness begins in small things. A kind word, an honest attitude, patience, and love are the path through which a person prepares his heart for God.
Thus, the Sunday of the Coming invites us to reflect on our lives. Let us ask ourselves: Do our words build others up? Do our actions bring goodness? Are our hearts open to God? If our life is filled with faith, love, and hope, then we are already walking toward the light of the Lord.
May this day become a new beginning for us. Let us live in such a way that every day becomes preparation for the coming of the Lord. Let us live with love, live with truth, and live with faith, so that when the Lord comes, our hearts may be filled with peace, joy, and love.
