“Blessed is anyone who will eat bread in the kingdom of God.”
(Luke 14:15)
This saying is Christ’s promise of the eternal joy prepared for those who accept God’s invitation with love and faith. When Christ speaks of the feast in God’s kingdom, He is not speaking of ordinary food or earthly hospitality; He is speaking of a spiritual banquet, the powerful union between the human soul and God. The food of that table is love, the kindness shared like bread, and the wine is the Lord’s word, which gives life to the soul.
The table of God symbolizes the joy of being close to Him—the peace and fullness that the world cannot give. The feast is an image of communion and intimacy, and the Lord desires all of us to sit at that table. God has opened His table before everyone. He invites each person to come and taste the blessing of His love. Yet, as the Gospel parable teaches, many reject this invitation, distracted by their work, worldly concerns, and material anxieties, while God’s table remains open and the Lord patiently awaits us all. Blessed is the one who hears this inner call, sets aside fear and worry, and comes to the Lord’s table with a pure heart.
The feast of God’s kingdom begins even now—within us, in the life of our faith. When in prayer we feel peace, when our hearts sense the presence of the Lord, we are already sitting at His table. When a person forgives, when they pray with sincerity, when they look upon others with love—they are already tasting the joy of that heavenly feast.
Therefore, let our hearts always be ready to accept this invitation without delay, for blessed are those who not only hear the call but take their place at God’s table, carrying light and peace within their hearts.
