Primate Ordains Two Deacons in Holy Apostles Armenian Church of Crescenta Valley
Published - 27 March 2025

The role of the deacon in the Armenian Apostolic Church is of profound liturgical and pastoral significance. From assisting in the celebration of the Divine Liturgy to proclaiming the Gospel and offering prayers, the deacon plays a crucial role in the spiritual life of the Church. Beyond the liturgical duties, deacons also provide vital support to the parish priest, aiding in the administration of sacraments, pastoral care, and the enrichment of parish life. Their service is an embodiment of Christ’s call to ministry and reflects the sacred traditions of the Armenian Church.

On Sunday, March 23, 2025, the Holy Apostles Armenian Church of Crescenta Valley witnessed a momentous and spiritually uplifting event as altar servers Mesrop Madoyan and Emin Matevosyan were ordained into the Diaconate. The day's celebrant and homilist was the Diocesan Primate His Eminence Archbishop Hovnan Derderian, who ordained the deacons in the presence of a congregation filled with faith and reverence. The ordination marked a significant milestone in the lives of the newly ordained deacons and in the continued spiritual growth of the parish community.

Following the ordination, Archbishop Derderian commended the zealous Christian spirit of Deacons Mesrop and Emin, expressing his heartfelt wishes for their steadfastness in service to Christ, our Lord, and the Armenian Apostolic Church. In his message, the Archbishop emphasized the importance of the diaconal role as a bridge between the clergy and the faithful, urging the newly ordained deacons to carry out their responsibilities with humility, devotion, and unwavering faith. His Eminence also commended the pastoral leadership of the Rev. Fr. Avedis Abovian, whose guidance and care for the flock of Christ is held by the community in the highest regard.

As the ordination concluded, the faithful gathered in unity, offering their heartfelt congratulations to the newly ordained deacons. With applause and hearts filled with spiritual joy, they expressed their support and prayers for Deacons Mesrop and Emin as they embark on this blessed journey of service. The ordination was not only a testament to their personal dedication but also a celebration of the enduring faith and commitment of the Armenian Christian community in Crescenta Valley.
