Published - 27 December 2024

On December 22, 2024, the sanctuary of St. Leon (Ghevontiants) Armenian Cathedral of the Western Diocese of the Armenian Church of North America came alive with the angelic voices of children during a special Christmas Carol Concert. Themed “Let’s Sing Together,” the concert was performed by the “Little Melodies” Children’s Choir under the direction of Deacon Artur Vardanyan. The program featured a heartfelt repertoire of Armenian spiritual hymns, traditional folk songs, and popular children’s melodies, capturing the essence of Christmas joy and the rich heritage of Armenian music. The faithful in attendance were deeply moved by the purity and harmony of the young voices that filled the Cathedral. The children were accompanied by members of the Cathedral's Shnorhali Choir, cellist Lilit Talasyan, pianist Sofie Sargsyan and Tigran Avetisyan on the duduk

The event was more than just a concert; it was a testament to the vibrant Christian spirit and cultural pride of the Diocese’s youngest members. At the conclusion of the performance, the Diocesan Primate, Archbishop Hovnan Derderian, delivered heartfelt remarks commending the zealous faith and dedication of the performers. He expressed gratitude for their contributions to preserving the sacred traditions of the Armenian Apostolic Church and emphasized the significance of their role in fostering community and spiritual growth. His words inspired all present to continue nurturing the faith and talents of the younger generation.

The day also marked a milestone for the “Little Melodies” Choir, as it celebrated its First Anniversary with a reception at the Hampar Family Room. The festive gathering brought together choir members, their families, and the community in a spirit of joy and gratitude. The Choir Director Dn. Artur Vardanyan expressed his wholehearted gratitude to the administrative assistant Delilah Shahbazyan for her dedication and unwavering service throughout the year.

The event underscored the success of the choir’s mission to bring children closer to their faith and heritage through music. This memorable celebration of Christmas and the choir’s achievements reflected the enduring vibrancy of the Western Diocese’s spiritual and cultural life.
