LA County Sheriff Alex Villanueva Visits the Western Diocese
Published - 28 August 2020

Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva  visited the Western Diocese of the Armenian Church of North America on Thursday, August 27, 2020. On his first courtesy visit to the Diocese, Sheriff Villanueva met with the Diocesan Primate Archbishop Hovnan Derderian, Diocesan Council Vice-Chair Derik Ghookasian, Executive Director Harout Markarian, and others. Also present at the meeting were the Honorable Vrej Agajanian, Mayor of the City of Glendale and community leaders.

Quoting Sir Robert Peel “the Public are the Police”, former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Sheriff Villanueva emphasized the essential role of the public in maintaining social order and harmonious coexistence. In light of recent events, the Los Angeles County Sheriff shared with the Primate the steps being taken by the Sheriff’s Department to ensure public safety.

On behalf of the Western Diocese, His Eminence Archbishop Hovnan Derderian commended Sheriff Villanueva’s vision and thanked the members of law enforcement for their sacrificial service. In these difficult times, realizing the importance of having the presence of law enforcement, the Western Diocese is committed to supporting the men and women in uniform who unconditionally serve the people of our county.
