Sunday of the World Church (Green Sunday) - April 19, 2026
Published - 16 April 2026

“And like living stones, let yourselves be built into a spiritual house” (1 Peter 2:5)

We have now reached the third Sunday of Easter, which our Holy Church calls The Sunday of the World Church or Green Sunday. This day reminds us of the great mystery of the establishment of the Church. It is the moment when the light of the Holy Resurrection of Jesus Christ begins to spread throughout the whole world, and the disciples of Christ become the living bearers of that light.

The Sunday of the World Church shows us that the Church is not merely a building, but a living body, whose head is Christ and whose members are us. The Church was born not of stones, but of faith; not of walls, but by the power of the Holy Spirit, as the Gospel says: “You are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church” (Matthew 16:18).

The name Green Sunday also carries its own meaning: green is the color of life, growth, and renewal. This reminds us that the Church is always alive, always growing, and we too are called to grow in faith. If we are connected to Christ, then this spiritual “greenness” should be visible in our lives—through the fruits of love, peace, patience, and kindness.

The Church was established to become a vessel of salvation for humanity. It is the place where a person encounters God, where the heart is healed, and where the soul finds its true peace. But the Church is not only the place we come to on Sundays; the Church is us—through our faith, our deeds, and our love.

The Sunday of the World Church invites us to reconsider our place in the Church. Are we merely visitors, or living members? Does our life testify to Christ? The Church is alive to the extent that our faith is alive.

May this Sunday of the World Church become for us a day of renewal and awakening. May our souls be filled with faith, our hearts with love, and may our lives become the living continuation of the Church in this world.
