Mer Hooys Hosts an Exciting Recital on July 31, 2025
Published - 1 August 2025

A packed house, and fantastic talent!  The Mer Hooys Board was so proud of 15-year-old resident Anahit, local soloist Lauren Movsesian, and talented accompanist and mentor to the Mer Hooys girls, Arshaluys Ovchyan, who shared a beautiful program with guests!

Earlier in the week, Mer Hooys resident 18 year old Hasmik, visiting the US with Anahit and Mer Hooys staff members, was baptized at St. Leon Cathedral.  Both girls will attend Week 4 of the Western Diocese Hye Camp.

The Board thanks all of those who attended and supported the recital! Thank you to 15 year old Anahit, Lauren Movsesian, and Arshaluys for sharing their absolutely stunning talent with close to 100 guests! Thank to Mer Hooys Director Noune Geghamyan and Program Social Worker Tamara Markaryan for being present, and for supporting Anahit's budding talent as a musician - her confidence in both performing and sharing her history and the description of each number - in English! - with the guests was so heartwarming!

Special thanks to Alice Skenderian who, single-handed, prepared and presented a fantastic feast for guests after the program.  Thank you to St. Gregory Pasadena for hosting the event.

Two young teens from the Mer Hooys program wove a small carpet for His Eminence Archbishop Hovnan Derderian, whose love and support for the girls is so appreciated by all.  Dr. Geghamyan and Board Chairman Hon. Adrienne Krikorian presented the framed carpet to His Eminence after the performance. Representatives from Glendale City Council and Mayor Ara Najarian presented commendations to performers, Srpazan, Dr. Geghamyan and Judge Krikorian.

Artwork from some of other talented residents was on display and available for a donation - the Board thanks those who donated and chose a piece of art to take home.  The Board also thanks Alice Kalustian and Lisa Kalustian for greeting guests and setting up the wonderful art display - and for all they do to make Mer Hooys a success.

Srpazan congratulated the talented performers and commended Judge Krikorian for her commitment to the Mer Hooys program since it was opened in 2012.

Donations to House of Hope - Mer Hooys, Inc. are tax deductible.  Interested donors may sponsor one girl for $1000 a year, which helps cover their personal and educational needs.  The program makes a real difference in the lives of deserving at-risk girls ages 6-22.  The annual budget is approximately $220,000 a year, and is totally supported by your donations!  Donations can be made at mer-hooys.org.  Read regular updates on Facebook, Instagram and on the Mer Hooys website.
