On June 19, 2016, the Diocesan Primate Archbishop Hovnan Derderian presided over the celebration of the Divine Liturgy at St. Leon Armenian Cathedral. The day’s celebrant was the Rev. Fr. Khajag Shahbazyan, the Cathedral’s Pastor.
 
His Eminence Archbishop Vatche Hovsepian, His Eminence Archbishop Yeprem Tabakian, the Very Rev. Fr. Dajad Dz. V. Yardemian and Archpriest Fr. Sipan Mekhsian participated in the service.

During the service, the Primate honored Dr. Hrant Ajemian with the Pontifical Encyclical of His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians and the prestigious St. Sahag – St. Mesrob medal which was presented to the honoree in recognition of his vast contribution in the field of education. Archbishop Derderian congratulated Dr. Ajemian and his spouse on the auspicious occasion wishing the honoree continued success in his God-pleasing endeavors.
 
St. Leon (Ghevontiants) Armenian Cathedral Godfathers Mr. and Mrs. Onnig and Karmen Garavaryan were also honored as Father and Mother of the Year.
 
A reception in honor of Dr. Hrant Ajemian and Mr. and Mrs. Onnig and Karmen Garavaryan was held at the Hampar Family Room of the Western Diocese following the service.
