The first clergy conference of 2025 was held at the Western Diocese of the Armenian Church of North America on Tuesday, February 25, under the presidency of His Eminence Archbishop Hovnan Derderian, Diocesan Primate. The conference, which was convened on the occasion of the Feast of St. Ghevont the Priest and his companions, took place in the Hampar Family Room of the Western Diocese and commenced with a morning prayer service.
In his opening remarks, Archbishop Derderian extended his heartfelt congratulations to the clergy on the occasion of the feast. His Eminence then presented his report, highlighting the Diocese’s ongoing missions and programs, as well as future initiatives. Among the key priorities discussed were the preparations for the Diocese’s 100th anniversary, the organization of deacons' training courses, and the implementation of institutional innovation programs.
The message of the day was delivered by Archpriest Fr. Manoug Markarian, who reflected on the significance of the Feast of Ghevontiants and the sacred calling of the Priesthood as the dedicated shepherding of Christ’s flock.
For the first time, the clergy assembly adopted a new format, incorporating four panel discussions that explored spiritual, ecclesiastical, and community matters. The topics covered included the revival of Gospel preaching in parishes, the enhancement of Biblical literacy, pastoral responses to crisis situations, and the evolving mission of the Western Diocese. Panelists shared insights from their pastoral experiences, engaging in constructive discussions and offering valuable recommendations.
In summarizing the discussions, Archbishop Derderian emphasized the importance of continuing these dialogues to formulate clear guidelines for the future. His Eminence also commended the unwavering dedication of the diocesan clergy, urging them to embrace greater responsibility and commitment in addressing contemporary challenges. He placed particular emphasis on the study of the Holy Bible, adherence to liturgical traditions, and the preservation of national and ecclesiastical values.
The clergy conference concluded with a closing prayer led by the Primate. In the evening, the clergy participated in the celebration of the Divine Liturgy at St. Leon Ghevontiants Armenian Cathedral, further commemorating the Feast of St. Ghevont the Priest and his companions.
