An elegant evening is being planned for Saturday, April 28, 2018 as two very special couples will be recognized for their loyal commitment to their church and community. Hilda & Berj Gourdikian and Salpi & Viken Mankerian, the honorees of “Bright Lights – Kind Hearts” to be held in Geragos Hall of St. Gregory Armenian Apostolic Church in Pasadena, have symbolized with their leadership and heartfelt devotion what all model community leaders should emulate.
Hilda & Berj Gourdikian have been involved with St. Gregory for decades. Hilda’s 18 years as a Sunday School volunteer teacher, and Berj’s work on the Parish Council along with his leadership on the Men’s Forum, which brings in high caliber speakers once a month for informative talks, have played a vital role in the growth of St. Gregory parish. Their community involvement extends to The Armenian Bone Marrow Registry where Hilda has been an active volunteer, as well as Homenetmen where Berj has been a player, a coach, and has held various positions in the organization. Working with Armenian youth has been extremely motivating for him. Having grown up at St. Gregory, Berj has been a religious steward, who calls St. Gregory his home.
Salpi has chaired the St Gregory Ladies Society’s Fashion Show for 11 consecutive years. As the major source of income for the Ladies Society, the fashion show plays a pivotal role in fundraising for the church. Her part as an active board member of The Armenian Bone Marrow Registry broadens her reach of selfless service to those in need. Viken, owner of Mission Wine & Spirits with five locations serving the San Fernando and San Gabriel Valleys, has kindly underwritten many events with his generosity of providing and never refusing when called upon to support, not only church functions, but also far reaching community events. The company is a premier beverage supplier who recently partnered with Amazon and their Prime Now service.
Both couple’s involvement extends to the Western Diocese of the Armenian Church of North America and beyond, which is why Archbishop Hovnan Derderian will personally recognize their faithfulness and make a special presentation that evening.
“Our honorees have tirelessly and consistently worked and given their time, talent, and treasure for the betterment of our ministry,” stated Archpriest Fr. Sarkis Petoyan, Pastor of St. Gregory Armenian Church. “We have been blessed to have them as community leaders who lead by example.”
Join us as we honor these deserving couples on April 28th, starting at 6:30 p.m. with cocktails and silent auction followed by a sit down dinner provided by Robert’s Catering. A special vocal performance by Mr. X will precede an evening of dancing to the sounds of DJ Allen Davtyan. Valet parking will be provided.
